Thai Malays or Malay Thai?

[edit]

Are they called (in English) Thai Malays or Malay Thai? Badagnani (talk) 04:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Either would be fine, Badagnani. However, we'll just leave it as "Thai Malays" - since that this usage sounds much better in English, as shown with the Thai Chinese article. --121.218.215.16 (talk) 23:19, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Surin Pitsuwan

[edit]

I have not seen any sources suggesting Surin calling himself a Malay (dont consider Blogs written by people as per Wikipedia:Reliable sources guideline.) Yes, it was me who cited the source in Pitsuwan's article of his Malay ancestry, but that does not imply that he consider himself Malay; he has Malay ancestry that's all. Perhaps you can try googling [1] "Surin pitsuwan" malay in yahoo/google for more results. There is a difference between a Malay person and a Person of Malay descent. Perhaps you can check out Satun province for further examples.

I would also hereby would like to point out that it would be better for us to showcase some unnotable ethnic Malays from Thailand for this article, rather than using a notable person, for consideration of diversity. Mr Tan (talk) 06:02, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
